Take two minutes to watch the video above (sound on!).

That lines up pretty well with what we talked about this past Sunday, right? But catch this: the pastor who wrote those words (along with a very good book about the importance of sound theology!) ten years ago has since walked away from the faith. Famously so. He no longer believes the good news about Jesus at all.

And that’s a reminder for those of us who are tempted to place all our hope in doctrine. In the end, this can’t be what you do because your parents believed it or your pastor believed it or somebody else believed it. You have to have an encounter with God – the God who’s actually there, not the God you’ve made up in your head – such that even if everybody else in your life walked away from Him, you’d still cling to him as your great treasure.

Is that who God is to you? Is He your great treasure? Would you cling to Him if everyone else walked away?

Come along with us on this 21-week journey. As we see him more closely for who he is, I pray he’ll become our treasure like never before.
