Judges 10:6-12:16 “I Have Given My Word to the Lord” Bonus Content
There was one sermon question texted in. Here is the question along with David Nonnenmacher’s response.
How and by what means did Jephthah sacrifice his daughter?
There are many different types of sacrifices in the Old Testament (Hebrew has more words for "sacrifice" than English). When Jephthah vows to sacrifice "who/whatever comes out of his house" in Judges 11:31, he is referring to what is called a "burnt offering." As such, fire would have been the means of the sacrifice. If only Jephthah would have read Deuteronomy 18:9-13 for a warning that this should never be done!
