Associate Pastor, Student and Family Ministry Job Description

 

Title:  Associate Pastor

 

Description:  He will provide leadership and oversight for the entirety of North Sub’s Student and Young Adult ministry, including Children’s Ministry, Junior High, High School, and Young Adult ministries, that fosters spiritual transformation, maturity, and growth of these students in support of the mission of North Suburban Church. He will also be responsible for sharing a certain portion of adult pastoral responsibilities as directed by the Senior Pastor.  It is envisioned that the candidate will allocate ~75% of his time on Student discipleship and ~25% of his time on Adult pastoral work in this hybrid role.

Scope of Work:  With a demonstrable passion for the Lord in both Student discipleship and Adult ministry, this individual will have a dual mandate to primarily drive North Sub’s Student Ministry while also working in Adult ministry as directed by the Senior Pastor.

 

Youth and Young Adult Ministry Responsibilities

 

  1. Develop, execute and communicate ministry vision with the Staff, Elders, and the congregation.
  2. Engage students and their friends at “Well Opportunities,” where students are regularly living their lives.
  3. Recruit, train, and supervise youth ministry volunteers as a cohesive discipleship team, for successful small group ministries
  4. Provide for the ongoing discipleship of Junior High and High School students, as well as Young Adults, by providing biblical teaching, pastoral counseling, and building personal relationships with students, both inside and outside of the church setting.
  5. Construct and provide formal avenues of student leadership development for service in the Church.
  6. Empower and equip parents to be effective disciple-makers for their students.
  7. Provide input into the development of annual Ministry Plans based upon the church’s mission and vision.
  8. Plan and schedule weekly student experiences and events involving community-building, teaching, and discipleship groups.
  9. Plan and schedule special experiences and events to enhance student spiritual growth (such as retreats, service projects, mission trips, etc.).
  10. Provide relevant and timely communication with students, parents, and the congregation with regard to ministry events, expectations, opportunities, and/or reports.
  11. Supervise and work with the Director of Children’s Ministries to align Student Ministries with Children’s Ministries so as to provide spiritual and programmatic continuity.
  12. Provide a Proposed Annual Budget for the Student Ministries and manage the approved budget.
 

Adult Ministry Responsibilities

  1. Preach 4-12 times a year on Sunday mornings
  2. Share with the Senior Pastor in visitations, counseling, weddings, funerals, representing the Church at official events, etc.
  3. Oversee Adult Life Group lay leaders
  4. Provide interim leadership in the absence of the Senior Pastor (vacation, sabbatical, etc.)
  5. Serve as a non-voting consultant to the Elder Board in year 1, with the possibility to serve as an Elder subsequently based on the discretion of the Senior Pastor and Elder Chair

 

Accountability:  Reports to Senior Pastor

 

Compensation package:  Full-time, salaried with competitive compensation and benefits. Compensation includes newly-renovated parsonage house on-site.
